Mobile equipment mechanics repair, adjust and maintain the mobile heavy equipment used in construction, transportation and production work at mine sites, and work both above and below ground. They identify problems and failures on mobile equipment using computerized monitoring equipment and other measurement instruments to determine the repairs needed. On a daily basis, they adjust equipment and repair or replace components or defective parts using various manual and mechanical tools. They help develop preventive maintenance procedures for mobile equipment to improve working procedures for maintenance operations and to reduce the number of failures and breakages. They clean and lubricate equipment and carry out other scheduled maintenance.
