Mechanical engineering technicians provide support and technical services for the design, construction, maintenance and testing of machines, components and tools, with respect to machining, the development of operation sheets, the programming of machines with digital controls, the production of tools, and quality control. They also cooperate with other trades in planning and carrying out maintenance work on machinery and organizing production work. During the construction phase, mining companies may give mechanical engineering technicians responsibility for conceiving and designing some equipment generally found in an ore treatment plant. They are able to draw up plans, drawings, technical specifications and 3D prototypes using traditional or computer-aided methods to support the company's engineering team.
