Industrial designers produce drawings and plans based on production standards for the design and modification of equipment or components. In general, they work for companies that design specialized equipment for the mining industry such as drills, conveyors and head frames. They work with engineers and technicians to produce drawings, plans and diagrams from sketches, engineering calculations, specifications and other data. They must ensure that the standards and techniques for producing plans and drawings are respected and that the plans and drawings match the initial specifications. They optimize equipment or adapt it to specific constraints or situations. They sometimes visit the mining company facilities to gather the data needed to design detailed plans.
